Canticle Two “Abraham and Isaac”  (Dellal, Seminatore)

This program presented concert arrangements of songs by Henry Purcell, magical spells, and musical setttings of poems by Thomas Hardy. The spectacular, quasi-operatic Canticle “Abraham and Isaac” is Britten’s musical setting of a Chester Mystery Play from the 14th century.

(We are pleased to say that Pickman Hall was nearly full, the applause was enthusiastic, and the Britten Canticle was successfully performed from memory!)

The core group of THIS SPACIOUS VISION includes four singers and two pianists. As projects develop, other artists may be added to this group. In addition to the core group, other people will join us for individual concerts as time goes by.

GERALD SEMINATORE (tenor). Critically acclaimed soloist in opera and concert throughout the United States and in Europe, including Dortmund, Frankfurt, Kaiserslautern, and Bremen (Germany), as well Santa Fe, Glimmerglass, West Bay, and other theaters. Many song recitals with emphasis on the German Lied and works of Benjamin Britten and his contemporaries. Faculty, Pepperdine University.

Rather than creating a traditional website, the coordinator of the SPACIOUS VISION Song Project will post occasional entries and updates on this weblog. Visitors may easily access information about upcoming and past concerts, as well as photos and media.

SPACIOUS VISION Song Project is a bi-coastal collective of classically oriented singers and pianists. We aspire to collaboratively prepare and perform art song and vocal chamber music in a variety of venues in both Southern California and New England. You may read more about us on the “Core Group” posting on the blog Home page.

Our programming will include works by a variety of composers, but a constant for all of our programs in 2012-13 will be vocal works by English composer Benjamin Britten (1913-76), in honor of the centennial year of his birth.
